84th Annual Dapper Dan Dinner & Sports Auction

The 84th Annual Dapper Dan Dinner and Sports Auction was held on Monday, February 10, 2020, at the Wyndham Grand Downtown.

Play-by-play broadcaster, Bill Hillgrove, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.  Mr. Hillgrove’s career has spanned more than five decades.  His career began in 1967 as the play-by-play analyst for Pitt men’s basketball followed by football in 1974.  He has been the voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers since 1994. 

Cameron Heyward, defensive end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was honored with the Sportsman of the Year Award.

The Pitt Women’s volleyball team was honored as Sportswomen of the Year.  The team celebrated one of its best seasons with a 30-2 overall record and earned the No 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament where they were defeated by Cincinnati in the second round.   

The Freddie Fu Sports Leadership Award was presented to Mike Tomlin, coach of the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers. 

The Dapper Dan charities were created in 1936 by a sports editor at the Post Gazette to raise money for local charities.  The annual event honors the best accomplishments in Pittsburgh sports.  Proceeds from the event benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania and other local charities.
