Ting Cong, MD

Dr. Cong is an Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. He is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He is affiliated with the UPMC Freddie Fu/Rooney Sports Medicine Complex, UPMC Mercy, UPMC Shadyside, and UPMC East. As a member of the faculty in the Division of Sports Medicine, Dr. Cong treats disorders related to joints, bone, and soft tissues including tendons and ligaments. He received his medical school training at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York. During medical school he also completed an AOA Carolyn L. Kuckein orthopaedic sports medicine research fellowship in the Rodeo Laboratory at the Hospital for Special Surgery where he studied genetic methods towards optimizing tendon and ligament healing following acute injury. Dr. Cong then went on to complete orthopaedic surgery residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and was the graduating recipient of the Mount Sinai orthopaedic resident research award. Dr. Cong subsequently completed two clinical orthopaedic surgery fellowships: first in sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he was assistant team physician at Duquesne University Athletics, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Pittsburgh Steelers; and second in bone metabolism at the Hospital for Special Surgery under the tutelage of Joseph Lane, during which he also pursued part-time research at the Matthew Greenblatt Skeletal Stem Cell Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medicine. His current academic focus resides in joint preservation, optimization of tissue healing, disorders of cartilage and underlying bone, and Skeletal Stem Cell therapy. Dr. Cong retains a surgeon-scientist role at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh.
