Craig S. Mauro MD

Craig S. Mauro, MD, is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at UPMC, as well as a fellowship in sports medicine, with a focus on hip arthroscopy, at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He was awarded an AO trauma fellowship in Salzburg, Austria, and completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction in Munich, Germany.

Dr. Mauro is head of the Hip Preservation Program at UPMC Orthopaedic Care. He is a team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers and previously served as a team physician for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Dr. Mauro is associate program director of the UPMC Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship training program, a member of Burke and Bradley Orthopaedics, and serves as associate master instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Dr. Mauro serves as a reviewer for multiple journals and has published more than 40 articles and book chapters. He has been named to Pittsburgh Magazine’s “Best Doctors” list each year since 2013. Dr. Mauro specializes in sports medicine injuries and hip arthroscopy and has extensive experience with arthroscopic, reconstructive, and replacement surgery of the shoulder, knee, and elbow.
