Passing of Professor Henry Mankin

Professor Henry Mankin passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018, in Boston, MA.  A native of Pittsburgh, he was a graduate of the class of 1953 Pittsburgh Medical School.  He was faculty at the department of orthopedic surgery at Pitt, working with Professor Ferguson in the 60s.  He then became the Chair at NYU and subsequently assumed Harvard MGH Chair until he retired in the 90s.

Dr. Mankin was a world-renowned tumor surgeon and a fantastic educator and had trained generations of orthopedic leaders.  He served as a board of overseer of the Pitt medical school. He was awarded Taylor Allderdice High School Hall of Fame, where he was a classmate and neighbor of the late Myron Cope, the Steeler broadcaster and inventor of the Terrible towel.  His wife Carole passed away a few years ago.  His son Keith is also a Pitt Med Alum and orthopedic surgeon in North Carolina. Professor Mankin is now with his wife Carole in a better place.  Let us all celebrate his life.
