Welcome New Faculty!

Welcome to our new faculty – F. Johannes Plate, MD, Sean P. Carnahan, DO, Jennifer L. Dauria, MD, Jessica L. Hughes, MD, and Amanda McCoy, MD

F. Johannes Plate, MD
Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Division of Adult Reconstruction

 

Dr. F. Johannes Plate joined the department as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Adult Reconstruction effective July 19, 2021.

Dr. Plate received his medical degree at Ruprecht-Karls Universitaet in Heidelberg, Germany, and earned his PhD in neuroscience at Wake Forest University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.  He completed orthopaedic surgery residency training at Wake Forest Baptist Health and completed an adult reconstruction fellowship at Duke University.  Prior to joining our department, Dr. Plate was on the faculty at Wake Forest School of Medicine.

Dr. Plate will see patients at UPMC Shadyside and UPMC Monroeville.

Sean P. Carnahan, DO
Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Division of Primary Care Sports Medicine

 

Dr. Sean P. Carnahan joined the department as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Primary Care Sports Medicine effective August 1, 2021.

Dr. Carnahan received his DO degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed residency training at Abington-Jefferson Health Family Medicine and recently completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship here at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. 

Dr. Carnahan will see patients at UPMC Rooney Sports Center, UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, and the Kaufmann Medical Building.  He will also serve as Team Physician for Robert Morris University.

Jennifer L. Dauria, MD
Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Division of Hand and Upper Extremity

 

Dr. Jennifer L. Dauria will join the department as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hand and Upper Extremity effective September 1, 2021.

Dr. Dauria received her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine.  She completed her orthopaedic surgery residency here at UPMC recently completed a fellowship in hand and upper extremity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Dauria will see patients at the Kaufmann Medical Building and UPMC South.

Jessica L. Hughes, MD
Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics

 

Dr. Jessica L. Hughes will join the department as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics effective September 1, 2021.

Dr. Hughes received her medical degree at the University of Texas, San Antonio.  She completed orthopaedic surgery residency training at Baylor Scott and White and recently completed pediatric orthopaedic surgery fellowship training at Rady Children’s Hospital- San Diego.

Dr. Hughes will see patients at UPMC Children’s Monroeville and UPMC Children’s North.  She will participate in hospital-based clinics at UPMC Children’s Hospital Main and Shriner’s of Erie.

Amanda McCoy, MD
Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics

 

Dr. Amanda McCoy will join the department as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics effective October 1, 2021.

Dr. McCoy earned an MPH from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and received her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine.  She completed orthopaedic surgery residency training in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program followed by a pediatric orthopaedic surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. 

Dr. McCoy recently completed a two-year commitment at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet, Kenya.  She was appointed Interim Program Director of Pan African Association of Christian Surgeons (PAACS)/College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) Tenwek Orthopaedic Residency Program.  She extended her initial commitment an additional year to assist with transitions in the orthopaedic residency program. 

Dr. McCoy will see patients at UPMC Children’s South and will participate in hospital-based clinics at UPMC Children’s Hospital Main and the CHP Outreach location in Western Maryland (Cumberland).
