On Saturday, October 4, 2025, our Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was proud to host the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Medical Student Lab Day. This one-day course, held in partnership with Stryker Corporation, welcomed fourth-year medical students applying for orthopaedic surgery residency programs from across the region.
The “Intro to Orthopaedic Surgery” course provided participants with valuable hands-on experience using basic orthopaedic instruments, including drill bits, saw blades, and depth gauges, through guided sawbones exercises. In addition to the lab component, PittOrtho and UPMC Orthopaedic Care members led didactic sessions covering key topics such as foot and ankle anatomy, ankle fractures, syndesmosis repair and how to succeed in a competitive orthopaedic application and residency program.
We were delighted to host this important workshop which furthers our commitment to advancing orthopaedic education and fostering early exposure to specialized surgical training. Thank you to all faculty, staff, residents and fellows who participated, presented or assisted!
