A farewell reception was held in the Scaife Hall Conference Rooms on Monday, June 6, for five of our current faculty with exciting career changes. The reception was attended by clinical and research faculty, residents, fellows, and lab personnel.
Andrew R. Evans, MD, will join the faculty of the Department of Orthopaedics as Assistant Professor at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Evans has been an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery since September 2008, providing orthopaedic trauma patient care at UPMC Mercy. Dr. Evans’ last day with the department was June 4, 2016.
Vincent Deeney, MD, will join the staff of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). His practice will focus on non operative pediatric orthopaedics. Dr. Deeney will still be involved in teaching residents who rotate through CHOP and medical students from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Deeney has served as Director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program and Vice-Chairman for Education since 2003. His last day with the department will be June 22, 2016.
James Roach, MD, has announced his plans for retirement effective June 30, 2016. A member of the faculty since 2010, Dr. Roach is a tenured professor in the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics, holds the William F. and Jean W. Donaldson Endowed Chair in Pediatric Orthopaedics, is the fellowship director for the pediatric orthopaedic clinical fellowship, and serves as Medical Director at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Erie, PA. He established the pediatric orthopaedic clinical fellowship and has been coordinating a successful match in a highly competitive market. In addition, he was instrumental in the redesign of the pediatric orthopaedic rotations, lectures, and conference schedules of the UPMC Medical Education Program in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Scott Tashman, PhD, has accepted a position at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. He will be appointed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School and will serve as Director of Biomedical Engineering at the Center for Regenerative Sports Medicine, Joint Research Program, of the University of Texas Health Science Center and Steadman Philippon Research Institute. Dr. Tashman is a tenured Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of the Biodynamics Laboratory. Dr. Tashman’s last day with the department will be June 14, 2016.
Dane K. Wukich, MD, has accepted the position as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. At UT Southwestern, he will hold the Dr. Charles F. Gregory Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery. A member of our faculty since 2004, Dr. Wukich is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Chief of the Division of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and Medical Director of the Center for Healing and Amputation. He also serves as the Medical Director of the UPMC Mercy Wound Center for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is Teaching and Resident Supervisor of UPMC Mercy’s Podiatric Residency Program. Dr. Wukich’s last day with our department is June 30, 2016.
Dr. Fu presented each faculty member with a plaque in recognition of their service with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Congratulations to all on their new appointments and we wish them well as they pursue the next chapter in their careers! The progression of their careers provides an excellent opportunity for a new generation of orthopaedic stars to lead us into the future.
