FAIR and BMRC Study Highlights Improved Pain and Function at 6 Months

A new study from the Foot and Ankle Injury Research Group, part of the Bethel Musculoskeletal Research Center, has found that Achilles tendon repair may significantly improve both pain and functional outcomes at six months post-surgery. The findings were presented this past September at the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Annual Meeting and were recently featured in Healio Orthopedics.

Dr. MaCalus Hogan, David Silver Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UPMC, was interviewed for the article, discussing the impact of these findings on patient recovery and surgical best practices.

The research, conducted by the Foot and Ankle Injury Research Group, underscores the department’s ongoing commitment to advancing orthopaedic care through clinical innovation and outcomes-driven science.
