We are excited to welcome Volker Musahl, MD to UPMC International as the Medical Director of International Sports Medicine.
Dr. Musahl currently serves as professor of both orthopaedic surgery and bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery, chief of the Division of Sports Medicine, program director of the Sports Medicine fellowship program, and medical director of the UPMC Rooney Sports Medicine Complex. He also serves as the team physician for the University of Pittsburgh football team. He specializes in sports medicine and his interests include bioengineering research of the knee and shoulder.
As medical director of International Sports Medicine, Dr. Musahl will provide expertise into the clinical assessment and implementation of sports medicine-related services for UPMC International. He will serve as the UPMC International liaison for sports medicine, work closely with leadership to make recommendations for new potential projects, and collaborate with in-country physicians and sports medicine colleagues.
In addition, Dr. Musahl will travel internationally to participate in project implementation, learn specific country regulations, and perform clinical duties, including outpatient visits and surgeries, as needed.
