Dr. Dukens LaBaze (PGY 4) wins First Place at NMA Orthopaedic Section

The National Medical Association (NMA) Annual Convention and Science Assembly was held in Atlanta, GA from Saturday, July 30th-August 3rd.  The (NMA)’s annual convention and scientific assembly is acclaimed as the nation’s foremost forum on medical science, innovation and African American health. Each year, African American physicians and other health professionals from across the country convene to participate in the scholarly exchange of medical advances, discuss health policy priorities, and to share experiences through networking opportunities.

The Timothy L. Stephens, Jr MD Research Symposium is hallmark of the NMA orthopedic section. This year featured 14 presenters from throughout the US and all orthopaedic subspecialties. Dukens LaBaze’s presentation “Perioperative HOOS-JR and KOOS-JR scores are affected by patient demographics, insurance type, and discharge disposition” won 1st place and he received a Grand Prize of $1000. The department was also represented by Dr. Joshua Adjei (PGY4) and Dr. Stephan Canton (PGY 2) who also had podium presentations.
