Annual Freddie H. Fu MD Sports Medicine Lectureship: 11/4/2020

The 2020 Annual Freddie H. Fu MD Sports Medicine Lectureship was held November 4, 2020, during which our very own Dr. Musahl, Dr. Irrgang, and Dr. Hughes (pictured below) presented the three consensus statements that culminated from the 2019 Panther Symposium. Beginning in 1986, the University of Pittsburgh Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has hosted the Panther Symposium as a consortium of international sports medicine experts, with a particular focus on the management of anterior cruciate ligament injury (2019 Panther Symposium attendees pictured below as well).

Dr. Musahl presented the first consensus statement on "Treatment after ACL Injury." In brief, both operative and non-operative treatment may be acceptable depending on individually unique patient characteristics.

Dr. Irrgang presented the second consensus statement on "Clinical Outcomes after ACL Injury." In summary, the primary outcome of interest is improvement from pre-treatment status, and requisite patient characteristics, study follow-up time, and outcome measures comprised this respective statement.

Finally, Dr. Hughes presented the third consensus statement on "Return to Sport after ACL injury," which was ultimately characterized as the achievement of the pre-injury level of sport.

Each complete consensus statement is noted below for those seeking to learn more.
